Oxford MS Runners, also known as Run Oxford, is a community organized running group. Our goal is to provide a space for runners of all paces to find a safe, comfortable running environment whether their goals are to run a 5k for the first time, qualify for the Boston Marathon, or anything in between. We offer several weekly group runs of various distances. We also encourage runners to use our Facebook page as a community forum to post relevant information about running or races, ask questions, and meet other runners.
First started in 2013 from a grant from the University of Mississippi and the support of the Oxford Park Commission, Run Oxford's first Board of Directors included Marvin King (President), Jill Knight (Vice-President), Nathan Hammer (Secretary), and Ed Dean (Treasurer).
In June 2015, Run Oxford produced its first race, the Splash ‘n Dash 5k. It was a free run benefitting More Than A Meal. Run Oxford also held the Mighty Half and 5k presented by Rebel Well | Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Mississippi Foundation on February 20, 2016. Over 500 runners participated and this event served to bring back a half marathon to Oxford, MS. Over 800 runners participated in the first annual Great 38 in October 2016 and the Great 38 continued for several years before the last iteration in the autumn of 2019.
Run Oxford continues to serve as an umbrella organization supporting runners of all paces and interests in the Oxford community. In the summer of 2023, a new Sunday group run based out of the Circle and Square brewery was added to our three long-standing group run events, and more developments are planned for 2024.
